We had a long dead tree leaning toward the house, within striking distance. Rather than just pound wedges to try to push the tree against its natural lean, we used a rope winch and a jack to gently put it on the ground. Pounding wedges can easily send shockwaves up the tree that could break off limbs onto the sawyer. The jack has steady pressure, and when inserted in the center of the tree, will evenly push up on the trunk, unlike numerous wedges.
